A rich, savory viral boat dip recipe made with cream cheese, sour cream, seasoned ground beef, cheddar cheese, jalapeños, and fresh green onions baked inside a crusty bread boat for the perfect crowd-pleasing appetizer.

  • Total Time: 40 minutes
  • Yield: 8-10 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1 lb ground beef, 80/20 blend
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup green onions, chopped
  • 1/4 cup jalapeños, diced
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 1 large bread boat or hollowed crusty loaf
  • Optional: 1/4 cup diced tomatoes
  • Optional: 2 tbsp fresh cilantro

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.
  2. Select a large round or oval crusty loaf and cut the top quarter off horizontally.
  3. Hollow out the interior, leaving about 1/2 inch of bread around the walls and bottom.
  4. Reserve the removed bread pieces for dipping.
  5. Place the hollowed bread boat on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or foil.
  6. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  7. Brown the ground beef, breaking it apart as it cooks, until no pink remains.
  8. Drain excess fat from the cooked ground beef and set aside.
  9. In a large mixing bowl, combine softened cream cheese and sour cream until smooth.
  10. Fold in the cooked ground beef until evenly combined.
  11. Add garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper.
  12. Stir in shredded cheddar cheese until fully incorporated.
  13. Fold in chopped green onions and diced jalapeños, reserving some for garnish.
  14. Transfer the mixture into the hollowed bread boat and smooth the top.
  15. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, until golden brown and bubbling around the edges.
  16. Remove from oven and let rest for 2 to 3 minutes.
  17. Garnish with reserved green onions, jalapeños, and optional fresh cilantro before serving.

Notes

Soften the cream cheese fully before mixing for the smoothest texture. Toast the hollowed bread boat for 5 minutes before filling if you want extra protection against sogginess.
