Ingredients
- 5 tablespoons all-purpose flour, 40g
- 4 tablespoons granulated sugar, 50g
- 2.5 tablespoons neutral oil, 35ml
- 3 tablespoons water or milk, 45ml
- 4 tablespoons semi-sweet chocolate chips, 60g
- 1/4 teaspoon baking powder, 1g
Instructions
- Combine flour, sugar, and baking powder in a microwave-safe mug.
- Pour neutral oil and water or milk into the mug with the dry ingredients.
- Stir the mixture vigorously with a fork until smooth, breaking apart any flour lumps completely.
- Fold the semi-sweet chocolate chips into the batter gently with a fork.
- Make sure the batter reaches only halfway up the mug’s interior walls to prevent overflow during cooking.
- Microwave the mug on high power for exactly 90 seconds.
- Check the center by inserting a toothpick.
- If the toothpick emerges with wet batter, microwave for an additional 30 seconds.
- Remove the mug carefully using an oven mitt, as it will be extremely hot.
- Allow the dessert to cool for 1 minute before eating directly from the mug or transferring to a plate.
- Top with whipped cream, vanilla ice cream, or powdered sugar if desired.
Notes
Use a microwave-safe ceramic or glass mug with walls at least four inches tall to prevent overflow. Do not overcook the mug cake; it should remain slightly moist because carryover cooking continues after microwaving.
